Yes, three riverboats are still out of commission but the other 12 are raking in more dough than the whole fleet won during the same period last year. Harrah's New Orleans was shuttered for six months, but has come back strong. Though the company's two Lake Charles boats are still closed from Rita, Pinnacle's splashy new resort L'Auberge du Lac has boosted the size of the local market."

California based nonprofit has provided nearly $30 million in direct aid in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

SANTA BARBARA, CA (April 12, 2006)

Direct Relief International today announced three cash grants totaling $435,593 to support frontline health services in hurricane-affected areas of the Gulf Coast.

These grants are the organization's most recent infusion of assistance. Since Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29, 2005, Direct Relief has responded by providing $26.1 million (wholesale) of medical material aid and over $3.7 million in targeted cash grants to clinics, hospitals, and associations."

The nonprofit zoo has broken attendance records and seen a deluge of donations as the hit show tracks the zoo's struggle to reopen following its 2004 evacuation as Hurricane Ivan approached.
