18-wheeler makes 13 trips

Tennessee's 'volunteer spirit' is alive and well in Giles County native Tony Eubank, as evidenced by his continuing individual contribution to Katrina relief efforts.
Eubank, who lives in Lexington, Ala., has furnished his 18-wheeler to make 13 trips carrying relief supplies to hurricane victims along the Gulf Coast, including deliveries to Pass Road Baptist Church in Gulfport.
'On the Monday, exactly one week after the hurricane landed, the sheriff escorted us into the area, and we arrived in Mt. Herman, La., with the first load of relief supplies,' Eubank said. 'This was the most touching experience, because these people had been without enough food to eat or clean water.'"

Reservations for the 30 available slots spilled over into a 20-name waiting list by Tuesday morning and people were still trying to sign up. An extra session was added, and the day was extended from 4 until 7 p.m.

We might have guessed it. Billy Graham isn't fading into the sunset just yet.
He said in June that the New York crusade would be his final one. But the legendary evangelist is scheduled to speak in New Orleans this month. Graham, if his health permits, will address pastors and the general public at his son Franklin Graham's 'Celebration of Hope' rally March 11 and 12 at New Orleans Arena, next to the heavily damaged Louisiana Superdome.
Vocalist George Beverly Shea will be there, as well as Cliff Barrows, Graham's longtime song leader.
I was happy to hear the news. This gathering will give us a chance to hear the powerfully straightforward message of Billy Graham in person again and also listen to Shea's incomparable version of 'How Great Thou Art.'"

Swarthmore faculty and students are continuing to support the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts through a recent Mardi Gras beads fundraiser and a service trip to New Orleans set for Spring Break.
Over the past two weeks, McCabe librarians have directed the Mardi Gras beads fundraiser to benefit the Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) library, their partner library in the Adopt-A-Library program. At $1 a strand, revenue from the Mardi Gras beads sales totaled nearly $800. The beads were on sale at the bookstore, libraries and coffee bars across campus. In addition, members of the Directed Relief Committee are in the process of organizing a group of students to help ongoing cleanup efforts in parts of New Orleans afflicted by the storm."
