Randleman, NC – Despite growing concerns about safety and the availability of gasoline, members of the North Carolina Motorcoach Association (NCMA) are providing transportation assistance for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
They are responding to requests from FEMA asking state and national motorcoach associations for transportation help. Operators started receiving requests on Wednesday, August 31st. Two days later, on Friday, the mayor of New Orleans publicized a dire need for 500 buses to help transport storm victims. The Louisiana and Mississippi power companies called for 800 coaches. Transportation Management Services (TMS) working with FEMA asked for 250 coaches.
