Disaster relief —�Southwest Virginia charities step up � Editorials � Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Bluefield, WV: However, the violent April storms are still fresh on the minds of the Southwest Virginia victims, many of whom are still upset over the Obama Administration’s refusal to grant Gov. Bob McDonnell’s request for a federal disaster declaration for the area. That’s why it was good to learn last week that an additional $1.1 million in pledges and donations have been raised for the tornado victims by area charities, corporations, organizations and concerned citizens.
