Before anyone guessed the scope of Hurricane Katrina's wrath, before anyone knew where and when they'd be needed, Monmouth residents Jack Hinkle and Sylvia Lee Young were out the door.
Across the country last weekend, fellow American Red Cross volunteers were following suit. By Wednesday, they had enabled the organization to open 250 emergency shelters for 45,000 refugees in the storm-ravaged New Orleans area. Fifteen emergency kitchens were ladling out enough food to feed 350,000."
