Maritime Museum Afloat in Troubles - Philanthropy Today - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas: Closed since April because of electrical damage from Hurricane Sandy, the financially strapped South Street Seaport Museum has lost its main source of financial support, writes The New York Times.
The small but culturally significant museum, which was founded in 1967 to chronicle New York City’s maritime history, has a collection that includes ship models, paintings, tools, and 11 historic vessels.
