In three weeks, planners for Show Me Support for Joplin: A Red Tie Affair chose a location (Washington, D.C.’s Union Station) and a theme (a “Top Chef”-style event featuring local and national chefs recreating a Joplin, Mo., favorite), and recruited more than 100 guests, including fellow event professionals and legislators, to the event supporting of the victims of the tornado that hit Joplin May 22. Contributions from the June 13 gala totaled more than $10,000, and organizers continue to raise funds, aiming for a $50,000 goal by the end of the campaign.
