Depleted Red Cross fights to avoid loan | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register: "The American Red Cross, too, is in need of help. The national agency's disaster relief fund has been depleted and it is trying to raise $15 million so it can avoid taking a loan, spokeswoman Laura Howe said. More money may be needed depending on how much damage the swollen Mississippi River does as floodwaters move south.

About $5 million has been raised in the past week, Howe said."
