John McCullough will fly today into the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, wanting to see firsthand what his organization will be trying to restore in the next several months.

But for 24 hours, mostly on Tuesday, he was in the Elkhart office of Church World Service plotting how his staff -- and many other faith-based groups in the United States -- will begin to count the losses and spread the word."
